How to Install Pop_OS! 19.10 on a Dell XPS 15 9570

Welcome to my second post, and this one being technical 🎉

Let's get started!

I assume you are here because you are trying to get Pop_OS! running on your brand-spanking new (or old) Dell XPS 15 9570. I went through a lot of posts ranging from random forums to Reddit, so you don't have to. I have also tried and tested all the the things that were mentioned till I found the solution and got Pop_OS! running on my machine. So, without futher ado, let's get into it.


Things you will need

  • Dell XPS 15 9570
  • A bootable USB drive with a copy of Pop_OS! on it. I have installed 19.10, hence that's what I would recommend if you are following this guide
  • Patience

    • First things first

    Before we jump into the installation process, we need to first prepare our PC for Pop_OS! I have written detailed steps below, so it's easy to follow

  • Boot your PC and continously press F2  to boot into the configure BIOS (Basic Input Output System) of the system. Once in, change the following settings
  • System Configuration > SATA Operation > Select the AHCI option
  • Secure Boot > Secure Boot Enable > Uncheck Enable Secure Boot if checked
  • General > Advanced Boot Options > Check Enable Legacy Option ROMS
    •  
  • General > Advanced Boot Options > Check Enable UEFI Network Stack

    • Download and make a bootable Pop_OS! USB

    Once your BIOS are in place, its time to download Pop_OS! from here.

    I would recommend getting the Nvidia version of Pop_OS! as that will have the Nvidia drivers bundled along with the OS.

    Finally, make a bootable USB as shown here  using Etcher


    Installing Pop_OS!

    Boot your Dell XPS 15 once more, and this time repeatedly press F12.

    This should take you to the boot options screen, there will be 3 headings or so to speak. Under the Legacy heading, select the first option which would ideally be USB Name Partion Name, and follow the simple installion process as shown here.

    Finally, enjoy the simplicity and slickness of your newly installed PopOS! 😃
